Faculty Achievement — UM Law Students Receive Awards From the Ministry of Higher Education
On the 25th of March 2017, two students from the University of Malaya Law Faculty, Vinodhan Kuppusamy (3rd Year Law) and Leeroy Ting Kah Sing (3rd Year Law) were awarded the 'Penghargaan Khas Ketua Pengarah Pendidikan Tinggi' Award by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education during the annual 'Tokoh Anugerah Siswa' award ceremony, an initiative by the Ministry to give recognition to top students from Public Universities across the country based on both their academic and extracurricular achievements. This year’s edition was held in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Baharu

Awarded by Datin Paduka Ir Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir, the Director General of Higher Education, the 'Penghargaan Khas Ketua Pengarah Pendidikan Tinggi' Award was given to public university students who have done the nation proud by placing Malaysia on the world stage through their achievements in major international level competitions. The duo were awarded for their accomplishments in international debating tournaments.

The duo would like to dedicate their awards to their debate coach, Associate Professor Dr. Chandran Somasundram as well as the Dean and Deputy Dean of the Law Faculty, Associate Prof. Dr. Johan Shamsuddin Bin Hj Sabaruddin and Dr. Nadhratul Wardah Binti Hj. Salman respectively, for their constant support and encouragement for law students to participate in external competitions, and Prof. Datuk Dr. Rohana Binti Yusof, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs for financially supporting the team’s participation in major international debating competitions.
